Synthesis, Crystal Structure, and Luminescent Sensing Properties of a Supramolecular 3D Zinc(II) Metal–Organic Framework with Terephthalate and Bis(imidazol-1-yl)methane Linkers

Supramolecular 3D Zn(II) coordination polymer {[Zn(bim)(bdc)]⋅0.8DMF⋅0.4EtOH⋅0.1H2O }n (Zn-MOF), constructed from Zn2+ ions, bis(imidazol-1-yl)methane (bim) and terephthalate (bdc2−) anions, was synthesized structurally characterized. Zn-MOF crystallizes in the tetragonal crystal system, space group P42/n. Each ion coordinates two neutral bim molecules a bridging bidentate mode via nitrogen atoms at position 3 of imidazole rings bdc2− with monodentate carboxylate for one them another. cations are distorted square pyramidal ZnN2O3 environment. Metal alternately linked by ligands, forming two-dimensional layered structure along crystallographic plane ab. As result layer interpenetration, supramolecular network is formed. demonstrated blue (aquamarine) emission maximum 430 nm upon excitation 325 nm. The luminescence lifetime 6 ns characteristic ligand-centered fluorescence. luminescent sensing properties ethanol suspension toward inorganic anions were evaluated an quenching response observed Fe3+ chromate/dichromate ions. Photoinduced electron transfer to elucidated as possible mechanism on basis DFT calculations.
